KENYA AND CUBA SIGN AN MOU ON HEALTH COOPERATION

The Mission facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Health Cooperation between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kenya and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cuba on 23rd May, 2017.

The MOU follows negotiations between the two Ministries that were coordinated and facilitated by the two countries Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The MOU was signed on the side lines of the 70th World Health Assembly that was taking place in Geneva, by the Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr. Cleopa Mailu and his Cuban Counterpart, Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda.

The signing was witnessed by the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Amina C. Mohamed. Also present were the Permanent Representative of the Kenya Mission to the United Nations, Amb. Stephen N. Karau, the Permanent Representative of the Cuban Mission to the 

United Nations, Amb.  Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, the Deputy Permanent Representative at the Kenya Mission, Amb. A. M. Kihurani, the Director of Medical Services Dr. J. Kioko, the Health Attache at the Kenya Mission, Dr. Hellen Kabiru and other officials from the two countries Health Ministries.

The MOU will facilitate cooperation in health matters, such as exchange of health specialists, investment in the Kenyan health sector to manufacture and package various prophylactics and medical products and capacity building in specialised areas, including Oncology, Nephrology and Cardiovascular Surgery.
