Passport application process:

Applications for Kenya passports should be made at least 6 months before the date of expiry. Applicants should submit applications online on the e-Citizen platform (visit https://www.ecitizen.go.ke/ ) then print out and present the documents to the Mission for onward transmission to the Office of the Director of Immigration Services in Nairobi.

Kenya passport holders, including citizens by birth who obtained the citizenship of another country under the repealed Constitution (before midnight of 30^th August 2010) may apply to regain Kenya citizenship before being issued with a Kenya passport. Those who have obtained the citizenship of another country after midnight of the 30^th of August 2010 should fill in and submit a declaration of Dual Citizenship form to accompany the application for passport. (Refer to the paragraph under Citizenship and Nationality.)

For information, the current valid passports that are not e-compliant and are non-Biometric will remain in use until 31st August 2019 after which they will be rendered invalid. For more information see linkhttp://www.immigration.go.ke/downloads/Banner%20e-passport.pdf

Holders of these series of passports are advised to apply for the new Biometric e-passports, especially when the have the opportunity to be in Kenya.

For the time being, applicants must physically present themselves at the passport office in Nairobi to allow for the capture of their Biometric data until the plans that are underway to progressively roll this out to other Regional offices and Missions are actualized.

Applications sent through post should include a pre-paid self-addressed return courier envelope that bears a tracking number.

 

 Requirements for a new/Replacement or an Expired/Filled up Passport:

• Two printouts of online form 19, duly completed, signed and dated together with the corresponding receipts/invoices for fees.
• Original and two copies (Bio Data Page) of the passport being replaced (not necessary for first applicants).
• Two copies of your Kenyan ID (not required for minors).
• Two copies of Kenyan Birth Certificate.
• Two passport sized-photographs of size 2 by 1½ inches. Machine photos are not acceptable. The photographs must have been taken within the last six months before submission.
• Applications must be recommended (in Section 7) by a Kenyan citizen, who should provide two copies of his/her passport or ID card.

 

Additional Passport Requirements for a minor (Below 18 years):

• Two copies of Parents’ Kenya passport in case of applicants under 18 years.
• Proof of father’s/mother’s Kenyan nationality/citizenship (Two copies of Kenya passport and Identity card).
• Two copies of completed Parental Consent form (completed by father or mother).
• Certified copy of parent’s marriage certificate, where applicable.
• Two copies of the Father’s / Mother’s Kenyan Birth certificate (both Sides).
• Copy of child’s original birth certificate with a certified translation into the English language.

 

Requirements for Replacing a Lost or Damaged Passport:

Two printouts of online form 19, duly completed, signed and dated together with the corresponding receipts.

• Two Copies of both sides of Kenyan ID Card.
• Two copies of police Report in case of a lost passport.
• Cover letter by the applicant detailing the names and the contacts of the applicant and explaining the circumstances under which the passport got lost while at the same time requesting for a new passport.

• An Affidavit (and a copy) sworn before a Commissioner of Oaths explaining the circumstances under which the passport got lost or, and mutilated.

• Two copies of lost passport or original of any passport previously held.

• The damaged passport (and a copy) for those replacing a mutilated one.

• Two copies of birth certificate.

• Two passport sized-photographs of size 2 by 1½ inches. Machine photos are not acceptable.

• Additional documentary proof of Kenya citizenship may be required if necessary. Applicants may be asked to attend to a face to face interview.

• Applications must be recommended (in Section 7) by a Kenyan citizen, who should provide two copies of his/her passport or ID card.

 

Change of Name and other details in the Bio data page in Passports

Applicants who wish to change names in their passports must apply for new passports and avail the following:

• Two printouts of online form 19, duly completed, signed and dated together with the corresponding receipts.

• Two copies of marriage certificate in case the change is as a result of marriage. Ladies who are married to Kenyan men or to foreign nationals who have had residential status in Kenya should indicate their husband’s file numbers/R.No. to enable the authorities trace and amalgamate the family files.

• Women in second marriages should submit a divorce certificate or death certificate in order to nullify the previous marriage(s).

•  Deed Poll registered in Kenya in the case of a gazetted change of name at the Attorney General’s office in Kenya. Affidavits are not acceptable in effecting change of names.

• Gazette notice of divorce and Divorce Decree as proof of dissolution of marriage for those who wish to revert to their maiden names.

• Original and two copies of current passport.

• Two passport sized-photographs. The size of the photographs must be 2 by 1½ inches, note that machine photos are not acceptable

• Two copies of current National Identity Card

• Applications must be recommended (in Section 7) by a Kenyan citizen, who should provide two copies of his/her passport or ID card.

•  For correction of dates of birth/place of birth, the original Birth Certificate (bearing the stamp of the Department of Immigration Services) used to obtain the passport in the first instance is required in addition to the above.

• Other changes in the details on the Bio data page will be handled on a case by case basis.

 

Photographs submitted for passports.

Photos attached on Form 19 should be clear - not be blurred, without a dark hue and clearly outline all facial features. Photos should have the applicant looking directly at the camera, show the natural skin tones and have the appropriate brightness and contrast.

The eyes should be open and clearly visible without any hair across the face. The eyes should be visible under any glasses if worn. Head coverings are discouraged unless for religious reasons but must allow for full visibility of the face.

 

EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT/ EMERGENCY CERTIFICATE.

This document can only be issued after an interview at the Mission which should be scheduled the earliest. To issue the document, the applicant is required to personally avail himself/herself at the Mission within 7 days of the date of travel in order to receive and sign the document before the Consular officer.

Exceptions may be considered on special request.

The document allows the holder to make a one-way direct journey to Kenya where they are expected to report to the Director of Immigration Services in order to regularize their situation and will be withdrawn by the Immigration officer at the port of arrival.

1. Cover letter explaining why you need the document.
2. Two passport sized photographs taken in the last six months.
3. Proof of Kenya citizenship through a Copy of passport or, and ID card.
4. If the passport or, and ID are lost, a Police abstract in English/certified translation into the English language.
5. For a child who has never held a Kenya passport, a birth certificate and its certified translation into the English language
6. Confirmed flight booking/copy of air ticket.
7. Evidence of payment of a non-refundable fee of Chf 20 to the Mission via post office of Bank Transfer
